The state of the Industry

For anybody currently working in Film & TV, I’m sure you will have noticed a huge downturn in production.

The Writers strikes in the US, follwed by SAG strikes, created a huge hole within the UK Film & TV Industry, because we are so reliant on US work in the UK, to bolster our Industry.

But since the strikes finished in 2023, the expected upturn just never happened.

First people suggested that channels were waiting for the new tax year (April), and although there was some activity, the work levels have not returned to any normal level.

Although the Film & TV Industry generates billions of pounds towards the UK economy, and with tax incentives announced at the last Budget, it’s still very quiet, mostly due to economic pressures.

At some point, things will have to pick up, otherwise there’s going to be a huge content hole globally, but we can only hope that the UK stays at the forefront of cutting edge production, and that normal levels of work return to all the crews and suppliers currently struggling.
