Jonathan Paul Green - Film & TV Production Designer

Biography

Jonathan Paul Green is a multi-award-winning, UK-based Production Designer with over 33 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Renowned for his versatility across various Film and TV genres, Jonathan has built a reputation as an innovative, collaborative, and dependable professional.

His journey into the industry began after studying Fine Art Sculpture at St. Martins School of Art from 1984 to 1987. His first role was creating puppets for Spitting Image, which led to various prop and model-making opportunities, including work at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and on the temple set of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade under Derek Howarth.

Transitioning to television as an Art Director, Jonathan soon embarked on his Production Design career. At just 26, he designed the set for Rory Bremner - Who Else? for Channel 4. He also worked on numerous pop promos, including designing a ‘frozen’ set for a Madonna performance for Fuji TV.

Over the years, Jonathan has designed some of TV’s most iconic studio sets, such as Ready Steady Cook, Can’t Cook Won’t Cook, QI, Mock the Week, Top Gear, Da Ali G Show, and The Chase. His talent for comedy set design is evident in his work on Brass Eye, Smack the Pony, and Green Wing—the latter earning him a nomination for an RTS Production Design Award.

From 2013 to 2015, Jonathan worked between London and Los Angeles on the award-winning TV series Episodes starring Matt LeBlanc, Tamsin Greig, and Stephen Mangan. In 2016, he designed the first series of Fleabag, written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and returned for the critically acclaimed second series. His work earned him Best Production Design in a Light Entertainment TV Show at the British Film Designers Guild Awards and a prestigious Art Directors Guild Awards nomination in the United States.

In 2018, Jonathan traveled to Fiji to design the TBS comedy Wrecked starring Rhys Darby. He has also maintained a long-standing collaboration with director Jim Field Smith, designing The Wrong Mans, Stag, and Criminal: UK for Netflix.

In 2021, Jonathan worked on the highly acclaimed third season of Atlanta with Donald Glover and director Hiro Murai. Filmed across London, Paris, and Amsterdam, the season received widespread critical praise. Jonathan's contributions earned him nominations from the British Film Designers Guild and the Set Decorators Society of America.

In 2022, Jonathan served as the Production Designer on the action-comedy feature film Sumotherhood, written and directed by Adam Deacon. The following year, he designed the Channel 4 drama Truelove and the CBS and Freevee show Dinner With The Parents.

Beyond his work in HETV and Film, Jonathan's expertise spans Comedy, Light Entertainment, Reality TV, Music, Children’s Programming, Commercials, Short Films, and Promos. His career has taken him internationally, with projects in the USA, Fiji, Austria, France, The Netherlands, and across the UK.

In addition to his Production Design career, Jonathan has showcased his artistic talents at The Icehotel in Sweden. Collaborating with his daughter Marnie, he has created a series of Art Suites for the hotel’s annual temporary exhibition, further demonstrating his creative versatility.
